The neo-cons gain access to the White House, and Japan is led by a Prime Minister more than willing to play cheerleader to the U.S. Empire. As the U.S. leads an unauthorized war on Iraq and Japanese policymakers bend over backwards to live up to U.S. expectations, life at the cultural, political, and personal levels goes on, with Japanese and Americans seemingly numb to the ways in which they are complicit in the destruction wrought by their leaders.
The director, an American permanent resident of Japan, offers a glimpse of both cultures against this backdrop from somewhere in between.
